Saturday Seven

I missed posting last Saturday...thought about it many times but just never made it to the computer to sit down and post something. In the past, I have posted several times my displeasure over the way electronics and social media forms have taken over our lives; I have discussed how I would like to unplug from all of this, and on several occasions I have done so for a couple days or so! I guess I just miss the days of only cellphones and email. I like FaceBook but there are many times that I feel like the world can not remember how to function without FaceBook or Twitter.

Take what's happening over at the Evil Empire...oops! I mean The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. ****Disclaimer*** I am a Wolfpack fan, however I would not wish what is happening at UNC-CH on any university or college. I do not take any special gratification or satisfaction from the current agent scandal or academic violations that the university is dealing with at the present moment. Yes, I do enjoy when our arch rivals lose but this situation is different. This situation is different than the outcome of an athletic contest.****Disclaimer****

The lives of about 12 young men hang in the balance of a 3 others who, while they may have been improperly interacting with agents or "runners" for agents, posted their actions on FaceBook/Twitter for ALL the world to read. When you post something, remember it is there for the world to see and that many businesses/corporations can find out what their employees or potential new employees post. Consider that way you are representing yourself when you post a status or upload pictures. Do you really want your boss or potential new boss to know every little detail or see the pictures of you doing shots at a local bar? Think about the future and not the immediate gratification you get from posting something on FaceBook or Twitter.

I am not condoning the academic fraud these young men and the tutor perpetuated. A student-athlete is a STUDENT first and an athlete second. If found guilty by the honor court at UNC-CH, these young men will be suspended from school (and in the words of Lee Fowler yesterday on 99.9 The Fan, these young men will lose 2 years of football, not just this one because they will not get their 24 hours (not sure if he meant playing time or academic credits) to play next year). For some of these young men, I understand that football is their "ticket" to making it in this world. However, if something is worth pursuing in this world then it takes HARD work not turning in work that is not your own as your own.

Wow, not really sure where all that came from...on to the Saturday Seven.

Seven Items I Can Not Live Without:

1) Coffee - yep, not a pretty sight if I can not have my coffee in the morning...or afternoon...or evening. Coffee is a "comfort" food for me.

2) College Football - I love good college football. I love the pre-game pageantry, the atmosphere in the stadium, being surrounded by the 57,000 other people who are passionate about Wolfpack football. I love the hard hits that make the crowd go "Ohhhhh". I love ESPN GameDay....please come back to Carter-Finley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Kirk Herbstreet but not Brent Musberger so much :-)

3) My dryer & dishwasher. When one is not working, it really makes you appreciate the convenience they bring to your life.

4) Our security system for the house.

5) Our church, small group and Vine Life. So blessed to have found great friends to "live" life with.

6) My garden - it makes me happy. I love my plants. I love the way the make my house a home.

7) My husband...even if he makes me crazy most of the time. I love you Andy.
