Life-Death-Plumbing

I am sitting here trying to think of something profound to write. I feel that the last 36-48 hours warrant something profound...but here are my thoughts.

I will start at the beginning:

Saturday afternoon, Andy & Eric removed the old dishwasher so that we could get another 3/4" needed to install the new dishwasher. They had to cut the supply line pipe to the dishwasher, it was copper & had been soldered. The cut-off valve was turned to the "off" position. Later that evening, I discovered water under the sink. Needless to say, the valve was still letting some water leak out.

Sunday morning - wake up & decide to go out for breakfast. Before we leave, we discover the pan Andy had put under the sink the night before leaked & so there was more water in the cabinet and on the floor. This problem needed to be addressed!!! The current "fix" was not to my satisfaction. Eat breakfast at the golden arches & return home. Andy begins to look for a shut-off valve for the entire sink area. He crawls under the house...to discover that the drain pipe from the bathtub is not connected to the discharge pipe.

Thus, water has been leaking directly onto the ground in the crawl space for almost 2 years!!!!!!

We decide to shut-off the water to the house at the street due to the drip under the kitchen sink, and go to my mom's for the day & night.

In the midst of packing clothes, toys, computer, work-related items, and getting the house in order for us to leave, Carol (Andy's mom) calls. Ted, her brother who has had pancreatic cancer for the last 2 1/2 years, is not expected to live the next 24 hours.

The enormity of the loss the family was about to endure made our plumbing woes pale in comparison. Ted passed away yesterday afternoon. He is now able to rest. He most likely is in heaven with his mother Margo and mother-in-law Kat.

I pray for his dear wife Scottie - a woman young and vibrant, who has lost her soul mate. I pray for his children Kate, Erin and Wilson. Though all adults, they have lost their "daddy". Our family, the Anderson side will never be whole again. But we will always have memories of Ted, and he will continue to live in our hearts.

Early this morning, I had a very vivid dream about Ted. He was sitting on the edge of a bed, reading a letter/will...in typical Anderson fashion. He read aloud "the phone Dad gave me for Christmas, you can give it back to him now" and he just laughed in the dream. Then, he began reading aloud a part about airline tickets that he & Scottie had purchased for a trip, how she would need to get them changed so someone else could go with her...and then he started sobbing...and I woke up.

Wow. what a week so far...and what a dream! My thoughts are with your family- I'm so sorry. I also really hope you get the plumbing problem fixed- has your utility bill been high at all?

Thanks for your sweet words. Bath Fitter who did our remodel 2 yrs ago came yesterday & replaced the drain as well as some of the pipes. Feel very fortunate that they upheld their guarantee & warranty. We also had the plumbing under the sink replaced today - found a contractor on our church's website. Waiting to get the dishwasher installed...but it will be interesting to see what our water bill will be - we get it every 2 mos.
