Two bits of news...

Two days in a row posting...I am either bored or just have news to share. This post falls into the latter category.

First piece of news: I have a new part-time job working for Jumpbunch!! Check out their website at www.jumpbunch.com. This is a company that was started about 10 years ago as a way to introduce children of all ages and athletic abilities to sports and fitness activities in a non-threatening, low-stress manner. I will primarily be working with pre-school age children (ages 3-5). What sets Jumpbunch apart from other programs, is that we take the program to the pre-school and have 70 different games, sports & skills to offer. I observed Chris (the owner of the franchise here in Raleigh) today teaching 2 classes. The sport that she was teaching today was t-ball. But it wasn't the actual t-ball games, it was learning 3 skills of t-ball: 2 hands to hold the bat, feet apart (shoulder width) and knees bent. All the children are encouraged to participate but are not forced to try anything. The class begins with a "cardio" warm-up, muscle warm-up (think light calisthenics), the activity for the day, strength building with Dyna bands, and then stretching to cool down. All of this takes place in 30 minutes. I am very excited b/c this will be a fun job. A chance to familiarize children with games and sports they might not otherwise come in to contact with, and a chance to make a positive impact on children about the "fun-ness" (my word) of playing physical games (not video games). I am so looking forward to teaching Jumpbunch classes!!

Second piece of news: I was accepted to NC State as a Non-Degree seeking student for the fall 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am mucho excited about this!!!! I can not wait to go back to school & take a class this fall. Hopefully, I will be taking Intro to Weather and Climate and can count this towards the 24 hours of science content courses I will need to become licensed as a science teacher in the state of North Carolina.
