The Crack of the Bat...

This may come as a surprise to some (or most of you), however I am a closet baseball lover.  I would not go as far as to say I eat, sleep, breathe baseball...however there is something about this time of year that makes me miss being an athletic trainer. Ahem, a Certified Athletic Trainer aka ATC.  I am not even particularly enamored with the major leagues (unless you are a certain team from Bean Town).  I love college baseball & some minor league ball.  To be honest, I love Bull Durham.  I love Annie Savoy, Crash Davis, Nuke LaLoosh and the whole cast of characters.  I love that I live in the Triangle & can visit so many places that are in the movie...my favorite is Mitch's Tavern...have sat & eaten in the booth the Crash is sitting in when that scene opens.  Just so you  know, whatever they angle they shot those scenes from, it makes Mitch's look much bigger than it really is, AND, the alley behind Mitch's does not look like that at all.  But I digress...

Today Boy Wonder & I were walking in our neighborhood and I heard that "Ping" sound ring out. You know the sound I'm talkin' about: the "ping" that comes from an aluminum bat making solid contact with a baseball.  That sound, more than anything else, makes me miss being an athletic trainer.  In college, my first love was men's basketball.  That was soon replaced in graduate school when I was the athletic trainer for the baseball team.  What a truly great sport to be a member of - I really can't explain it, I think there are closer bonds on baseball teams as compared to basketball or football.  I have the team picture from my first year at the "G" hanging in the family room.  Some many great memories I have of that team.

I am also have a reawakening of my sports self.  I have been so wrapped up & enamored with college football, that I have pretty much forgotten about other college sports.  However, I really enjoyed the ACC tourney this weekend.  I am looking forward to some college baseball this coming weekend with Boy Wonder because the weather is supposed to be beautiful.

So the hubster is home from work, and it is closing in on the hour that princess' & their carriages turn back into scullery maids & pumpkins.
G'night, y'all.
