Thought provoking

Some random thoughts, insights and updates:

a) Looking for a new job - come on people, don't act like you're surprised! Still trying to find my niche after leaving Duke a year ago.

b) Stacy had a great birthday. Lots of presents, 2 monkey birthday cakes and he was surrounded by family & friends who love him.

c) Great celebration this past Saturday of our adoption. Nice to have almost all of the family here at our house.

d) Sometimes you do not need to reinvent yourself, all you need to do is look back over where you have been for the answer to your future. I will let you all ponder what that means...

e) Just because you get every Friday off, it does not mean the rest of the work week schedule will be a "fit" for your family.

f) It is great to reconnect with old friends & co-workers.

g) That I am not the only one who knows more people who do not work in the field they went to school for...why does society make 18 year old kids decide what they want to do for the rest of their life?

h) The American collegiate/university system should be reinvented - all schools should offer a bachelors degree in life (or general studies) that would equip "kids" to get an entry level job of their interest, work for a predetermined number of years and then return to school for further education in their desired career path.

i) That separating from a job is not a bad thing and sheds light on the future.

j) Why do we all get so wrapped up in what society sees as "normal"? Why do we all fall prey to the trappings of the world? Why do we define our self-worth in monetary terms?

k) Life is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're gonna get. Thanks Forest!

l) Smaller is better.

m) Leftovers are yummy.

n) The old adage is true - times flies by the older you get. Wow, next week is the last week of August...where has 2009 gone? And, summer if not officially over until September 21, 2009 at 11:59pm.

o) Trust your gut.

p) You can always tell when an actress on a soap opera is pregnant but the character she plays is not - you generally only see shots of her from the bust up and/or her clothes are more flowing or voluminous or they lock her up in a room or jail or something like that.

q) I am determined to get some seed packets of fall flowers and get them germinating. There have been no flowers on my front porch this summer! Yard work is therapy - try it!

r) Do not switch laundry detergent, bath soap and body lotion all within a few weeks of each other...makes it hard to determine what is making you itch.

s) Friends are great.

t) Sweet tea is wonderful but I must not drink it after 6pm unless I want to be awake until midnight. Coffee on the other hand...no problem falling asleep.

u) Rearranging furniture is great "retail" therapy when you cannot afford the "retail".

v) Getting to the beach more than once a summer (when the beach is only 2 hours away) is harder than you think.

w) Kids say the darndest things.

x) Would you believe that a 4 yr old likes to make his bed?

y) Medicaid has actually already changed Stacy's name within their system...wonder how long it will be until the card reflects the name change even though their computer system recognizes it? Why does Medicaid not provide more than 1 card? Why is not laminated like other health insurance cards?

z) I made it through the entire alphabet letting out the thoughts in my head...not sure what's left to rattle around in there. Off to fold laundry.
